Philadelphia Rock Gyms, which got its start with an Oaks location and now has several sites throughout the region, is celebrating its 30th anniversary, reports Bob Kelly for FOX 29.

The gym, which was one of the first indoor climbing centers in the U.S., is open to the public.

“You can come on in and get a day pass,” said Lauren Caporizo, head of sales and marketing at Philadelphia Rock Gyms. “You can get a membership.”

Walls at the Oaks facility are around 32 feet clear. There are three different styles of climbing available, including the more advanced leap climbing.

Also, the walls and rocks are very colorful for a good reason.

“The way we make climbing more difficult or more easy is to stick to a certain color,” said Caporizo.

That way a climber can choose to only use the rocks marked with blue tape for climbing and next time opt to take a different path marked with a different color.

Since everything gets changed around every three months, visitors always get a new experience when revisiting the gym.
