The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission approved $15.5 million for eleven bicycle and pedestrian projects in Southeastern Pennsylvania, including two in Montgomery County, through the Regional Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program.

The federal program provides funds for community-based “non-traditional” projects that are aimed at strengthening the cultural, aesthetic, and environmental aspects of the intermodal transportation system in the country.

“These eleven projects will enable communities to build multi-use trails, safe routes to school, pedestrian pathways, bike lanes, and other projects that provide safe, resilient, and sustainable transportation options throughout our region,” said Ariella Maron, DVRPC Executive Director.

Montgomery County projects that have been awarded funding are Memorial Park Improvements and Upper Moreland Power Line Trail.

Memorial Park Improvements received $850,000. The project encompasses 1,500 feet of 6-foot wide paved shared-use path and two pedestrian bridges that connect Memorial Park to W. Moreland Avenue.

The Upper Moreland Power Line Trail project was awarded $2,465,780. It encompasses 1,800 feet of 10-foot paved multi-use path along PECO right-of-way going from Blair Mill Road to Maryland Road.
