Deck’s Hardware in Ambler, a mainstay of Ambler’s Main Street for over 100 years, has closed up shop for good, writes Ryan Genova for Around Ambler.

The family-owned hardware store was founded by Garnett M. Deck in 1908 and was most recently owned by Tyler and Tim Deck. Tyler passed away in April.

The store, which has been described by Hidden City Philadelphia as “a conglomeration of buildings, the centerpiece of which dates back to 1875, shut down in late December.

In a farewell Facebook post, the Deck family wrote, “Thank you for your continued support throughout the years. 115 is a huge accomplishment and we are proud to be a part of such an amazing community. Only time will tell what will happen with the building, but we hope you will continue to walk by and reminisce about Deck’s.”

Many community members have responded with their memories of the store, including one commenter who wrote, “…I will miss coming into that space and walking on those original plank wood floors, the scent of the shop…and the amazing finds. A classic hardware store that can’t be replicated. All the best to the crew!!!”
