In addition to subscriptions, John Goncher also sells his bread at farmers’ markets and in several cafes.

John Goncher of Rosemont, owner of Wild Yeast Bakehouse, started his subscription-based home bakery after he left the corporate finance world in search of something new, writes Richard Ilgenfritz for the Main Line Times & Suburban.

Three years later, his new business keeps growing.

His model is simple enough. Customers can sign up for regular home deliveries of homemade sourdough breads.

He started the bakery during the pandemic when he was looking for self-employment opportunities. He landed on a bakery but decided to tweak the model and make it a subscription service.

He started his home-based micro bakery from his Rosemont home.

“The subscription model and the delivery business is one that really made sense to me because it was a commitment from people that gave me a little more confidence to go out and make the investments,” said Goncher.

The type of bread varies based on several factors, including flour, seasonality, and customer feedback.

Goncher started with ten customers, and today, he delivers around 120 loaves to customers on the Main Line each week.

In addition to subscriptions, now he also sells his bread at farmers’ markets and in several cafes. Read more about Wild Yeast Bakehouse in the Main Line Times & Suburban.
