Wyndmoor Mom Starts Foundation for Teens with Cancer in Memory of Her Son

By

A Wyndmoor mother took her grief over the loss of her son to cancer and channeled it into helping teens facing a similar battle to her son’s, writes Matteo Iadonisi for 6abc.

Melissa Delaney-Doliner saw firsthand the struggles her son Colin went through being so young and having to face a deadly disease.

A year after he passed away in 2018, she decided she wanted to do something to help other teens with cancer, and The MIP Foundation was born.

MIP stands for “Most Important Person.” The idea came from something a doctor said to her son.

“The oncologist on call said, don’t worry, you’re the ‘Most Important Person’ here. I made a joke and laughed and said, look at that, you know what, we’re going to call you the MIP from now on,” Delaney-Doliner said.

The foundation accepts nominations for teen cancer patients and sends them special gifts to make them feel like the “Most Important Person.”

“We support these amazing teenagers and young adults through MIP kits, which are very personalized materials, to give them coping skills to manage their diagnosis,” Delaney-Doliner explained.
