Kristen Graham, reporter for The Philadelphia Inquirer, recently realized her dream of seeing the Pennsylvania Farm Show’s butter sculpture in Harrisburg.

“There was something wholesome and satisfying about a work of art fashioned from 1,000 pounds of butter, a paean to the hard work of the people who power an industry that feeds us,” she wrote.

This year’s sculpture was again created by Conshohocken artists Jim Victor and Marie Pelton from butter donated by Land O’ Lakes in Cumberland County.

Victor and Pelton have made 22 of the Pennsylvania buttery works of art displayed since the 1990s.

The 2024 theme is “A Table for All: Pennsylvania Dairy Connects Communities.” The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture described it as showing “urban and rural Pennsylvanians connecting around a meal of delicious local food against a backdrop of a cityscape and farm skyline.”

During the show which ends on Sunday, the sculpture is showcased in a climate-controlled glass room.

The sculpture will eventually be recycled and sent to Reinford Farms in Juniata County to be turned into renewable energy.
