Philadelphia has long been a pioneer in music and culture and each generation brings a new wave of artists and creatives continuing the tradition, writes Earl Hopkins for The Philadelphia Inquirer

Ben Thomas, a Philly-based audio engineer and producer, is one of the architects fueling the new creative wave in the city.

He recently earned his eighth Grammy nomination for his work on Lil Uzi Vert’s “Just Wanna Rock.”

“I think this period of Philly music is beautiful,” said Thomas. “We have so much talent here. It’s great to see people getting their shine and I’m blessed to play a small part.”

In his role, Thomas serves as both a curator and a connector.

He has linked the city’s biggest artists and helped craft their solo or collaborative projects, opening doors for emerging musical talents.

Thomas’ dedication has led him to collaborate with the likes of Chill Moody, Justin Bieber, Bryson Tiller, Jazmine Sullivan, Meek Mill, and others.

As Thomas continues to perfect his craft and pursue songwriting ventures, he also wants to put his energy into community service and engagement for young students of color.

“There’s a lot of support that allows me to shine, and I’m very thankful for everybody,” he said.
