Asher’s Chocolates in Souderton, which has been making fine chocolates and other classic confectionary for five generations, is the oldest chocolate business in the Greater Philadelphia area, reports Bob Kelly for FOX 29 Philadelphia.

“Asher’s has been around since 1892,” said Mary Ellen Ruskowski, who has been working at Asher’s Chocolates for 42 years. “We were originally in Philadelphia, the Germantown section of the city. We came up here in 1998 and we are now in the Souderton area.”

The chocolate plant makes around 300 different items, and each day something different can be found on the molding line. Its products range from a sea salt caramel to a pretzel to a gram cracker.

Every holiday comes with its own shapes. For Easter, Asher’s Chocolates makes various sweets shaped like rabbits and ducks, while Christmas brings on Santas and snowmen.

In addition to shipping its products to various shops throughout the country, Asher’s also sells its sweets at its retail store at the Souderton facility.
