Tanner Maddocks, the Villanova University redshirt freshman quarterback, is preparing to launch his sports tech startup, Athlete Squared, during the offseason, writes Ryan Mulligan for PHL INNO.
After his team ended the season in the Football Championship Subdivision quarterfinals, Maddocks decided to focus his time on the idea he got playing as a quarterback at Fleetwood High School.
At the time, as he had no personal trainer or coach due to a limited supply of affordable options, the young athlete watched videos of NFL quarterbacks on YouTube.
Now, his platform aims to make both training and coaching more accessible and affordable. Athlete Squared allows college athletes to create training content that younger kids can learn from. Meanwhile, kids can pay to watch such videos and do the sessions on their own time.
The public relations and advertising major sees plenty of runway for such a platform. Some of his teammates already train area kids following practice, but some find it to be time-consuming as well as difficult to schedule.
However, by using Maddocks’ platform, that time can be slashed dramatically.
“It’s really just monetizing yourself in the most efficient way possible,” he said.
