Lower Merion Township is home to 67 more trees this year thanks to the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Tree Tenders program, according to a staff report from the Main Line Times & Suburban.

As part of PHS’ Fall 2023 Tree Planting initiative, neighborhood PHS Tree Tenders groups joined forces with Lower Merion Township staff in November to plant dozens of trees in local parks and residential areas.

Five Lower Merion Tree Tenders groups first spent months identifying planting locations, ordering trees, and organizing volunteers. They also gathered supplies, solicited donations, and delivered trees to their designated locations.

PHS Tree Tender groups along with the help of Lower Merion Township staff and over 100 volunteers then planted 67 trees in the township between November 17 and 19.

Various local groups and organizations provided support for planting events, including the Ardmore Progressive Civic Association, Friends of Rolling Hill Park, Merion Civic Association, and Botanical Society of Lower Merion, among many others.

Thanks to the support from both its staff and volunteers, the Township managed to plant trees at a significant cost savings.
