All three seats on the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners are up for election, writes Kenny Cooper for WHYY.

Democratic Commissioner Jamila Winder is running alongside Neil Makhija on the Democratic ticket against Republican challengers Thomas DiBello and Liz Ferry.

Winder is a lifelong East Norriton Township resident and the only current commissioner running. She listed homelessness, addiction, and housing affordability among the main issues she wants to work on if elected.

Makhija is a lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School and president of Indian American Impact.

“Given the recent events in politics where our democracy itself is under threat, I felt it was incredibly important to have people who understand how to protect the right to vote in a local office that administers elections,” he said.

DiBello has extensive experience in public office. He served on the Limerick Township Board of Supervisors and as the township auditor. He listed crime and government spending as the main issues he plans to address if elected.

Ferry has years of public service experience. Most recently, she served on the Upper Dublin Township Board of Commissioners. She is a United States Navy veteran and plans to focus on crime and government spending.
