Lower Merion School Board and Township Solidify Deal with Haverford on Polo Field
The Polo Field in Haverford has been at the center of a long debate that is finally coming to an end, writes Richard Ilgenfritz for Mainline Media News.
Lower Merion, Lower Merion Schools, and Haverford have finalized a deal where Haverford will own Polo Field, but both Haverford and Lower Merion will be able to allocate field use.
Polo Field in Bryn Mawr was originally owned by the Bryn Mawr Playfield Association, and under a 1944 agreement Lower Merion and Haverford both could use the field.
The Lower Merion School District has been pushing for new fields for Black Rock Middle School which doesn’t have enough land for playing fields.
The school district bought two other properties near the school to be used for fields, but the residents of Lower Merion are against the decision because of the loss of Oakwell’s 500 trees and historic assets.
School officials have said that once they knew how much use of Polo Field they could depend on, they would develop a new plan for Oakwell.
