Mike Cessario, who attended Avon Grove High School and lived in Landenberg for a time, turned his passion for health into a $700-million-worth business Liquid Death, writes Robert Tuchman for the Entrepreneur

In a short time, Cessario has built the fastest-growing water brand in the country.

The former punk rocker credits his success to several things, including having diverse experiences, such as playing in a band.

“I think that was probably the seed of the entrepreneurialism thing,” he said. “Because for decades in that world of punk rock, there’s this whole world of DIY thing, do it yourself.”

For him, being in a band was similar to running a small business. He had to book gigs, create flyers, plan performances, and make sure that four people showed up at the same time at the same place when required. All of this required innovative thinking and dynamic execution.

Cessario also believes that creativity, business acumen, and adept problem-solving skills are key to establishing a successful business. For him, his background in advertising played a huge role in shaping Liquid Death’s advertising campaigns.

Finally, he noted that the early milestones are important, as are persistence and resourcefulness.
