Sprouts Farmers Market is spreading its reach into the Philadelphia region with four new area stores, including one in Limerick, writes Paul Schwedelson for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The grocery chain is based in Phoenix, Arizona, but it has been slowly expanding into the local area since 2018 when it opened a store in South Philadelphia.

Since then, Sprouts has opened locations in Upper Dublin; Haddon Township and Marlton, New Jersey; and Wilmington, Delaware.

The newest Philadelphia-area locations expected to open in the next couple of years include Quartermaster Plaza in South Philadelphia, Roosevelt Mall in Northeast Philadelphia, the former Festival Pier site in Northern Liberties and the Limerick store.

Sprouts emphasizes fresh, organic food, specially produce. They also have traditional grocery store offerings like meat, deli, and bakery good, but their focus is on healthy foods.

Dan Croce, senior vice president of real estate and new store development, said that once a new customer visits the store “they get it,” they understand what Sprouts’ all about.

“Why Philadelphia? Its passion. They love it. And the city, the greater metropolitan Philadelphia area is wonderfully diverse,” Croce said.

“That’s where the brand really starts to resonate and echo because it’s there for all.”
