State Reps, County Leaders Rally Behind Suburban Community Hospital Nurses

Nurses are concerned over chronic short-staffing and what that means for patient care.

Several prominent local leaders joined the picket line of healthcare workers at Suburban Community Hospital earlier this week to show their support for the nurses who are rallying for safe working conditions, writes Justin Heinze for Patch.

State Sen. Amanda Cappelletti, State Reps. Matt Bradford and Greg Scott, and Montgomery County Commissioner Jamila Winder were expected to be on hand at Suburban Community Hospital in East Norriton on Monday.

Currently, there are contract negotiations taking place between the nurses and the hospital’s owner, Prime Healthcare.

Nurses are concerned over chronic short-staffing and what that means for patient care, as well as the inadequate healthcare insurance plans that Prime offers its own employees.

“When nurses are routinely required to care for more patients than is safe, it’s a crisis for both patients, who receive inadequate care, and nurses, who daily risk both their license and moral injury to care for more patients at a time than is possible to do safely,” said the Suburban General Nurses Association.

Michelle Aliprantis, a hospital spokesperson said that Prime is committed to reaching an agreement that is “in the best interests of our hospital, our employees, and most importantly, those whom we serve.”
