The mission of Philly Music Fest is to celebrate and promote the musical talents of Philly musicians. This passion for local music is what drives the Narberth couple who organizes the fest each year, writes Ben Silver for Main Line Today.

This year the Philly Music Fest will run October 9 through the 15 at venues like Ardmore Music Hall, World Café Live, Milkboy, Johnny Brenda’s, Underground Arts, and Solar Myth.

Featured Philly musicians will include Kurt Vile and the Violators, Tigers Jaw, Marian Hill and almost two dozen other acts.

Greg and Jenn Seltzer met 30 years ago at Penn State and for almost seven years have run the music fest out of their Narberth home.

The couple had no prior experience in the music industry before embarking on this passion project, but their day jobs in law and accounting help them navigate any issues that might come up during the organizing of each year’s event.

What makes the Philly Music Fest so unique is that because it is a nonprofit, the need for producers and promoters is eliminated so musicians and venues can be paid more fairly than they are at other music festivals.

Any net proceeds are then donated to charities like Girls Rock Philly, Rock to the Future and Settlement Music School.
