Pennsylvania ranks high for having many deaths in the horror movies that were filmed here.

Local horror movie fans should take pride in the fact that more people were killed in horror movies based in Pennsylvania than in any other state, writes Jason Nark for The Philadelphia Inquirer

To get the body count for each state, CableTV.com looked at Rotten Tomatoes’ 200 Best Horror Movies of All Time and removed all the movies that do not take place in the United States.

The “study” found that 615 people were killed in six horror movies based in Pennsylvania — and most of them were ended by zombies.

The number would be much higher if the not-quite-horror film Unbreakable by Willistown Township’s resident horror/thriller guru M. Night Shyamalan had been included — as it racked up a whopping 306 deaths. However, Shyamalan is not always that happy to kill off his characters. His most famous horror movie, The Sixth Sense, has only one death.

Meanwhile, the 1958 sci-fi/horror flick The Blob would contribute six more deaths to that number. The cult classic was filmed in Phoenixville, home of the popular Blobfest, Downingtown, Chester Springs, and other Chester County places.
