Brad Clemens, president of Clemens Food Group, attributes the company’s long history of success to its core values: ethics, integrity, and stewardship.

The parent company of Hatfield Meats, Clemens Food Group, in its almost 130-year history has always tried to stay true to its core values, writes Todd Romero for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The company with more than 2,700 employees across the Greater Philadelphia region was founded in 1895 by John C. Clemens.

At first the family-owned business based in Hatfield was run from a small farm. Today it is the largest pork processor in Pennsylvania and the fifth largest pork company in the country with four main pork brands: Hatfield, Farm Promise, Premium Reserve and Prima Porta.

The company operates a processing facility in Hatfield as well as one in Coldwater, Michigan.

Brad Clemens, president of Clemens Food Group, said in an interview with Philadelphia Business Journal that he attributes the company’s long history of success to its core values: ethics, integrity, and stewardship.

Those values started with his great-great-grandfather and are still very important to the company today, he said.

Staying a family-owned business is important to Clemens, their employees, and customers, but Brad said they see themselves as a “business family” not a “family business.”

This means that despite the almost 400 family shareholders, the business always comes first, he said.
