Citizens Bank is planning on reducing its footprint in the Philadelphia area by closing four branches in local supermarkets, including one in Blue Bell, writes Jeff Blumenthal for Philadelphia Business Journal.

In its filing with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the bank, which is a subsidiary of Providence, Rhode Island’s Citizens Financial Group, laid out plans to close the following in-store locations:

  • 1760 DeKalb Pike in Blue Bell (inside a Giant store)
  • 785 Starr St. in Phoenixville (inside an Acme)
  • 100 Suburban Drive in Newark, Delaware (inside an Acme store)
  • 1 University Plaza in Newark, Delaware (inside an Acme store)

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Citizens has closed eight Philadelphia-area branches inside supermarkets, including locations in Horsham (inside a Giant store) and Jenkintown (inside an Acme store).

The bank has said that in many of these locations, the branch will be replaced with a Virtual Assistant Kiosk that will connect customers to customer support representatives.
