Pictured here is a Citizens Bank branch in Center City. The most recent closures have been at branches inside supermarkets, including one in Bala Cynwyd.

As part of its plan to trim down the number of its branches in the region, Citizens Bank has announced the closure of its Bala Cynwyd branch inside the Acme at 121 E. City Avenue, writes Jeff Blumenthal for Philadelphia Business Journal.

The branch inside the Acme at 6800 New Falls Road in Levittown has also been shut down.

Earlier in the year, Citizens Bank also shuttered branches inside supermarkets in Paoli, Newtown, and Blue Bell.

Since June 30, Citizens has filed with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to close 74 locations. When all these are closed, the bank will be down to 134 local branches.

As customers became more comfortable with online and mobile banking during the pandemic, Citizens began consolidating more of its branches.

In some of its closed branches, there will be a Virtual Assistant Kiosk to connect customers to customer support representatives via a video feed.
