Buck Mason co-founders Erik Allen Ford and Sasha Koehn believe they have created the perfect men’s tee and saved a 144-year-old knit mill in Eastern Pennsylvania in the process, writes Eric Twardzik for the Robb Report.

The menswear label specializes in casual staples, such as tees, Henley’s, and jeans. Founded in 2013 in California, the brand had previously partnered with domestic and international factories to make its wares.

By late 2022, the pair decided to build their T-shirt factory.

But Ford soon found out that Mohnton Knitting Mills was about to go belly up. The business was established in 1878 and had two facilities, a fabric knitting mill in Shillington and a cut-and-sew facility in Mohnton.

It seemed like the perfect opportunity, so the co-owners decided to acquire the factories for their operations.

One of the biggest selling points was the factories came with another precious asset: a highly skilled workforce.

“We had to move quickly because we would have lost all of the employees if we hadn’t put the deal together in essentially real-time,” said Ford.

The deal was finalized, and by January 2023, all the employees were able to return to their stations in what is now called Buck Mason Knitting Mills.
