Amtrak’s Silver Star route, which passes through Philadelphia, is the perfect way to tour around the country and enjoy the peak fall foliage season to the fullest, writes Sherel Purcell for 10best USA TODAY.

The route starts in Miami and stops for the first time in Savannah, Georgia. It continues to Washington, D.C. before making its third stop in Philadelphia.

Fall in the City of Brotherly Love means colorful foliage starting from early October and lasting to late November. In addition to fall foliage, Philadelphia has plenty of other attractions, including ghost tours and historic sights.

Eastern State Penitentiary is one of the places that should not be missed at this time of year. The place that was once home to notorious gangsters like Al Capone hosts ghost stories, nighttime tours, and spooky cocktail lounges in October for Halloween Nights.

The towering AKA University City, an extended stay hotel at 2929 Walnut Street in University City, is within walking distance from the Amtrak stop at 30th Street Station. Here you can enjoy state-of-the-art fitness facilities with stunning views of Center City and a bar that overlooks Schuylkill River.
