New Cozy Cocktail Bar Specializing in House-made Mead Comes to Jenkintown

Keep Easy is a new cozy cocktail bar in Jenkintown that offers delicious house-made mead along with Pennsylvania wine and cocktails, writes Jenn Ladd for The Philadelphia Inquirer

And while they do specialize in mead, owners Melissa Hager and Mike O’Donnell decided against incorporating the honeyed spirit into the name of their bar.

“From a marketing perspective, it was just silly to make that the core focus,” said O’Donnell.

Located in Yorkway Place, Jenkintown’s most charming pedestrian alley, the bar maxes out at 20 people inside. There are also 30 additional places on its front patio.

The owners have lived in Jenkintown for over eight years. They had owned a tea lounge called the Herb Shop since March 2020, but they opted to open something more lucrative in the last year. They decided making mead was the way to go as it requires relatively little equipment, as opposed to beer or spirits.

“It’s basically the same fermentation process as wine, but instead of fruit we’re using honey,” said O’Donnell.

The couple also offers limited food options at the bar, including fish and snack boards, cheese and crackers, and chips and salsa.
