The legendary ska band The Hooters gained momentum in the Philadelphia music scene in the eighties, writes Gina Lizzo for Main Line Today. A Chester County drive-in theater was pivotal for its 1985 hit.

A now demolished drive-in theater near Exton Square Mall was where the music video for “And We Danced” was filmed. With the release of their first studio album in 13 years, Rocking & Swinging, the band is digging deep into its ska and reggae roots from the eighties.

The band will be going on its first national tour since the mid-90’s. Founding members Eric Bazilian and David Uosikkinen said that the key to longevity for their group is the fact that they stuck together.

“When we get together, it’s a special thing—a magical bond. There’s a mutual love and respect that’s taken us around the world and seems to want to take us even farther,” said Bazilian.

When it comes to memories that stick out to them, Uosikkinen recalls times he’s met and befriended his musical heroes. For Bazilian it was moments on stage — or a tour bus, where he realized how lucky he was.
