Sarah Baker, the new head of school at Tower Hill School, located in Wilmington, Delaware, started her teaching career in Montgomery County.

She first taught at Agnes Irwin School in Rosemont and then worked in advancement at Episcopal Academy, writes Lisa Dukart for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

She is also a graduate of Episcopal which had two campuses, one in Merion and one in Devon, before building its new campus in Newtown Square.

After leaving Episcopal, Baker held the position of assistant head of the upper school at Collegiate School in Richmond, Virginia. Then in 2021, she came to Tower Hill to lead its upper school. Her new position as head of school started in July.

On the capital projects that Tower Hill has been undertaking, Baker said, “A lot of it is athletics improvements right now. We’ve gutted our locker rooms and we’re moving on a significant renovation to our gym, a turf field for girls’ field hockey and lacrosse, and really exciting is we have a large sort of artery that moves through the campus —17th street in Wilmington comes through our campus — and that is being quieted in front of the campus. There’s cobblestone being laid, lit walkways being constructed, so that for the children who cross the street each day, this is a safer space and so that our campus has an even more campus-like feel.”

She added, “We are proud to be part of the city. At the same time, this will help us, I think, honor the community that we are with a bit more of a campus-like feel.”
