Former U.S. Army major Dr. Robert Heininger is opening an occupational medicine and urgent care center in Willow Grove this week, writes John George for Philadelphia Business Journal.

The new center is located at the former site of an Abington-Jefferson Health urgent care facility.

Heininger, who lives in Ambler, decided to lead his own center after a year of working as a medical director at Public Health Management Corp., and more than two years at Concentra, a national occupational health care provider.

As a physician with Concentra, he worked with patients with job-related injuries and illnesses and workers’ compensation care. Most of the Concentra clients were big businesses so Heininger saw an opportunity to open his own center to serve small to -mid-size employers.

“I wasn’t seeing people from the small manufacturers or the tow truck operators or the landscapers,” he explained.

“I liked seeing people from all those different professions. I looked into where they were going and the reality was, they didn’t have a lot of places to go.”

HHC Workers’ Health and Urgent Care will work with employers to provide physicals, drug testing, and health screening, provide occupational health and rehabilitation services to employees injured on the job, as well as offer urgent care services to the general public.

The urgent care services will also include lab work, diagnostic services, vaccinations, and travel medicine.
