Germantown Academy and other Montgomery County private schools have millions of dollars earmarked for improvements on their campuses, everything from new health centers to state-of-the-art athletic facilities, writes Todd Romero for Philadelphia Business Journal.

Three Montgomery County schools were included in a series of stories on local private schools ahead of the start of the 2023-24 academic year.

Germantown Academy

Germantown Academy in Fort Washington hopes to have a soft opening of its 25,000-square-foot, $10 million health and wellness center this month and the grand opening in September, just in time for the start of the new school year.

“We’re quadrupling the size of our weight room, which will be beneficial not just for the student-athletes, but for a large percentage of our population that is [suffering] the aftereffects of the pandemic,” said Tim Ginter, the director of athletics at Germantown Academy.

“There will be mindfulness sessions, yoga sessions, and positive psychology sessions for our student-athletes and our students who are trying to bridge that gap between healthy minds, health bodies, healthy spirit…”

La Salle College High School

Located in Wyndmoor, La Salle College High School serves both Philadelphia and Montgomery counties. The school has started construction on a new addition that will house the school’s David Program.

Christopher M. Carabello, director of marketing, communications and public relations at the school said that the program is designed to support students with diagnosed learning differences.

The 5,000 square-foot space is expected to open next fall and will include collaborative learning spaces, a group study area, and a common area.

Hill Top Preparatory School

Hill Top Preparatory School in Bryn Mawr has been undergoing extensive improvements including a new Esports and Technology Center and a brand-new patio.

Head of the School Kevin M.R. Mayne said that the school is also renovating its fitness and wellness center with state-of-the art equipment and more programming.
