The Montgomery Bar Association has announced its recent launch of a new court-supported program for matters and disputes that have been or could otherwise be filed in our courts.
The goal of the program is to provide local attorneys with a fair, expeditious, and less costly alternative to resolving civil disputes outside of Montgomery County’s busy courts.
Sponsored and administered by the Bar Association, the new service, simply called, “The Montgomery Bar Association Mediation Program” is presently offering services for civil matters and will expand its offerings to include family matters in early October of this year.
All mediation services will be provided through an expert panel of certified, experienced Members of the Montgomery Bar.
According to 4-year Program Chair Katherine Frechette, Esquire, “Mediation is an increasingly popular, consensual process in which an impartial “Mediator” facilitates communication between two or more conflicted parties to aid the parties in resolving the conflict.”
“Mediators do not have authority to make decisions or impose a solution on the parties but can often provide clarity and assistance to resolution based on their neutrality, knowledge, and understanding of the law, as well as their own professional legal experience. Ultimately, the fundamental principle of Mediation is self-determination of the parties, which avoids the discomfort, inconvenience, and expense of traditional litigation.”
All panelists who are part of the MBA Mediation Program are members of the Bar Association in good standing with a minimum of 10 years of practical experience. Each has been individually vetted and approved by a review panel and has completed a minimum of 14 classroom hours of intensive mediation skills training offered through the MBA or a nationally accredited, MBA-approved provider.
Services are available to individuals, public and private entities, insurance carriers, and attorneys, both pre-litigation and after cases are in suit.
