Montgomery County will provide $1.5 million in funding to 69 fire companies as part of the Fire Services Recovery Grant Program, writes Justin Heinze for Patch.

The grant program was created to assist fire companies in recovery from the pandemic. The average grant given to local companies was $21,724.

“Fire companies who demonstrated pandemic-related economic impacts, such as decreased revenue, loss of supplemental fundraising revenue, financial insecurity or hardship, increased costs, or challenges covering payroll, rent or mortgage, or other operating costs were eligible to receive funds, “Montgomery County officials said in a statement.

The fire companies received the money at a special ceremony at the Montgomery County Special Operations Substation and Logistics Warehouse in Fort Washington.

The Abington fire department received a check for $18,874.02, while the Horsham fire department was awarded $23,135.44.
