For Sean-Tamba Matthew, a Wyncote resident, helping others is an important part of his Catholic faith.

Thankful for the gifts he has received in his life, he is driven to give back by volunteering with faith-based nonprofits, writes Gia Myers for Catholic Philly.

Matthew along with his wife, Elizabeth, and three young sons, are members of Our Mother of Consolation Parish in Chestnut Hill.

Growing up in East Cleveland, Ohio, which has one of the poorest performing school districts in the state, he was very grateful for his Catholic school education at Christ the King School and St. Ignatius High School.

“Being able to grow up in that environment has been instrumental to my success,” he said.

Matthew is now a shareholder at Stevens & Lee, a full-service law firm with 185 attorneys, and a member of SES ESOP Strategies, a national Employee Stock Ownership Plans firm. He is also a Kellogg Fellow at the Rutgers School of Management and Labor Relations.

Despite a busy work and family life, he always makes time for his volunteer work. Matthew serves as the Director and Vice President on the Board of Directors for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia’s Nutritional Development Services. The agency’s mission is to address food insecurity in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

He also served for about two years on the board of directors for Independence Mission Schools, a non-profit network of 14 independent Catholic schools serving 4,000 Pre-K to 8th grade students from families of all faiths in and near Philadelphia.
