The Schuylkill River Sojourn is the perfect way to get to know the Schuylkill River by paddling down it and camping around it while making some new friends in the process, writes Meg McGuire for the Delaware Currents.

You can stay anywhere from a single day to a full week.

Schuylkill River Greenways recently held a small celebration of hosting the sojourn for 25 years in West Conshohocken. Patti and Joe Pezely from Valley Forge were there as part of their tenth Schuylkill River Sojourn. The couple has a simple reason for returning year after year.

“‘Cause we like it,” said Joe Pezely. “It’s fun.”

As a bonus, sojourn participants provide a major shot in the arm for riverside communities.

“You can see how you bring economic vitality into the river towns,” said Elaine Schaefer, the executive director of Schuylkill River Greenways, during the celebration.

Several special guests were present, including Ken Lawrence Jr., chair of the Montgomery County Commissioners, and State Senator Amanda Cappelletti.
