As a lead up to America’s 250th Anniversary and Semiquincentennial in July 2026, Montgomery County has been holding a photo contest of its historic sites, and it is not too late to still participate.

The deadline is noon on August 7, 2023. Entries are limited to one per household, per category.

The contest is open to all Montgomery County residents, including a special category for kids ages 10-18. The photographs must be taken at a County, state, or national historical site, historical marker, and/or park in Montgomery County.

You can enter your photographs into three categories:

  • Youth: A parent or guardian must submit the photo on behalf of the child, between the ages of 10 and 18.
  • Historical Elements: For this category, submit photos of unique architectural, art, technology, or cultural elements from a historical site.
  • Natural Beauty: These photos should capture nature’s beauty at one of the historical sites.

“Beginning our celebration with a photo contest is a great way to get folks involved and in the spirit of celebrating all the ways our County has contributed to the nation’s history,” said Montgomery County Board of Commissioners Chair Kenneth E. Lawrence Jr.

“We want this commemoration to be a collaborative and inclusive effort bringing together everyone in our County.”

A panel of judges will pick five images in each category and then the public will vote to choose a winner. All winners will be announced at a County Board of Commissioners meeting in September 2023.
