The three-county region of Montgomery, Chester, and Bucks counties made significant gains in economic performance in 2023, compared to the previous year, according to a report by the Milken Institute on the best-performing cities in 2023.

The Milken report reviewed the ongoing impact of the pandemic nationwide as it ranked 403 metropolitan areas; 200 large cities, and 203 small cities.

The three-county region of Montgomery, Bucks, and Chester counties was 51st in overall economic performance among 200 large cities for 2023, rising significantly from its 94h position in 2022.

It was 102nd in job growth between 2016 and 2020, and 47th in job growth in 2020-2021.

For wage growth, the region ranked 101st out of 200 between 2016 and 2021, ranking 74th for wage growth in 2020-2021.

It came in 99th in its high-tech GDP between 2016 and 2021, and 104th in 2020-2021.

The region ranked high in its high-tech concentration, placing 16th out of 200 in 2023. 

It was 19th for broadband access.

The region was 66th out of 200 in housing affordability between 2017 and 2021, ranking 41st for housing affordability in 2020-21.

The 2023 Best-Performing Cities index is based primarily on 2021 data, the first full year of recovery following the onset of COVID-19.
