Three-year-old Remi Chadwick of Gulph Mills had a special guest at her recent third birthday. It was the hero who saved her life just over a year ago. Deanna Durante and David Chang reported the special reunion for NBC 10 Philadelphia.

It was nap time that Remi found herself in dire trouble. Her mother, Jean Ann, heard her on the baby monitor, choking; she recognized the danger immediately, given her past career as a trauma nurse.

She grabbed Remi and frantically tried to remove whatever was blocking her airway. “I couldn’t clear it myself,” she said.

She dialed 911, and Upper Merion Township Police Officer Dan Mease was on her front porch almost immediately. He just happened to be nearby.

By the time Jean Ann handed Remi to Mease, the child was turning blue.

Not even taking the time to enter the home, he flipped her over while standing on the lawn and thumped her back.

Remi swallowed, clearing the object from her windpipe.

A year later, when Mease was invited to mark Remi’s big day, she was asked to identify who special guest “Officer Dan” was. “He’s an angel,” she said.

More on Jean Ann and Remi Chadwick and their Montgomery County hero is at NBC 10 Philadelphia.
