The Elmwood Park Zoo, Norristown, is know for being especially pet-friendly.

The warmer weather and later sunsets mean additional opportunities for time outside, a draw for residents and their pets alike. A recent Philadelphia Inquirer pet-friendly site list, from Nick Vadala, Michelle Reese, and Henry Savage, is particularly appropriate right now.

The “dog days” at Elmwood Park Zoo, Norristown, are among the recommendations.

Participation takes some paperwork beforehand:

  • Online application
  • Proof of vaccinations
  • Evidence of a recent vet visit

But once cleared, dog visitors are welcome Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from noon to 5:00 PM until June 30. There’s a $12.95 charge per dog (discounted $2 for zoo members), and admission tickets atop that fee are necessary.

Also, the zoo’s “Yappy Hours” provide shorter windows of opportunity to visit with a furry friend; the next few are May 26, June 1, and June 30.

The other opportunity for a special romp with Rover is at the Montgomery Township Bark Park, 1228 Welsh Road, North Wales.

This one-acre space has a wood-chip surface that will be easy on dogs’ joints and plenty of toys, slides, and ramps. The shaded areas are great for a break for both canines and owners.

Admission to the park is free, and its hours are sunrise to sunset.

The whole pack of area pet-friendly sites is at The Philadelphia Inquirer.
