Safety procedures in the OR were one of many criteria used by The Leapfrog Group in its healthcare assessments.

The Leapfrog Group — a Washington, D.C., healthcare industry evaluator — has completed its Spring 2023 national evaluations. Its analysts awarded Lankenau Medical Center in Wynnewood an A rating, the hospital’s best performance grade in three years.

Max Bennett reported the Main Line Health outcome in the Ardmore-Merion-Wynnewood Patch.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is a 12-tier examination of hospital practices related to the overall issue of patient harm, including avoidable dangers associated with:

  • Infection
  • Maternity and pediatric care
  • Elective outpatient surgeries, adult and pediatric
  • Total joint replacements

Lankenau’s upward progress is evident by a recap of past results. Its 2020 spring and fall evaluations were C-graded; a year later, they had risen to a B.

In the A-grade assessment, Lankenau ranked “better than average” for categories that included:

  • Objects accidentally left in surgical patients
  • Communications
  • Hospital staff responsiveness
  • Adequate staffing

Main Line Health’s other Montgomery County presence, Bryn Mawr Hospital, earned an A Leapfrog score as well, as did its counterparts in Delaware and Chester counties.

The health system’s President/CEO Jack Lynch said, “[This] prestigious recognition belongs to each and every one of our Main Line Health staff members who provide safe, high-quality, and equitable care on a daily basis.”

The Leapfrog report card for Lankenau is online.

The complete coverage of this healthcare achievement is in the Ardmore-Merion-Wynnewood Patch.
