North Penn High School teacher Jereme Boucher may be all about the periodic table and photosynthesis during the day. But once that final bell rings in Lansdale, he breaks free of academia and indulges in some adrenaline-filled pastimes. Riley Roach reported on his extracurricular interests in The Knight Crier.

Some of Boucher’s personal time is spent in a martial arts gym, giving lessons.

The sport caught his attention as a youngster “My parents signed me up for martial arts when I was five,” Boucher recalled. “I actually did love it.”

The passion from those early years took hold, and now the discipline has been part of Boucher’s life for 32 years. “I kept up with it. And now … have gotten into actual combative stuff like the stuff that the Israeli military does, kickboxing, competitions, and everything else [mixed martial arts].”

Boucher is also something of an adventurer.

Inspired by his 73-year-old father who is still an avid camper and canoeist, he spent a summer in Alaska, working with Eskimos.

That journey was instrumental in forming his philosophy about risk-taking and rising to significant challenges. “You’ll never experience anything quite like it again,” he said, describing the grit needed to tackle the unfamiliar. “[But] You’ll never regret it.”
