This Black Hair Beauty Brand Quadrupled Sales after Opening in King of Prussia Mall

A Philadelphia beauty startup that sells products for natural Black hair can now be found in King of Prussia Mall. Zenn Hair Care, which Aurora Teasly launched in June 2020, has quadrupled in sales last year. Lisa Dukart combed through its details for her Philadelphia Business Journal story.

Teasly was interested in hair styling since high school but instead wanted to pursue human resources as a career. She graduated from Shippensburg University at the beginning of the pandemic, which caused her career trajectory to veer off course.

Instead of human resources, Teasly decided to be an entrepreneur.

She started making her own hair products, then listed them online. Her hair-growth pomade sold out within five hours, then sold out again after Teasly restocked.

She expanded her product collection to two oils, a conditioner, shampoo, and scalp cleanser. They’re all handmade in Philadelphia, using natural products.

In 2021, Teasly started selling her branded line from a cart at Willow Grove Mall and then eventually moved to King of Prussia Mall. Its significantly wider consumer base (20 million annual visitors), enabled Teasley to expand her reach.

Despite the success the brick-and-mortar location at the esteemed mega-mall has brought Teasley, however, she wants to transition back to being primarily an e-commerce brand.

She opened an Etsy and is now crowdfunding for working capital and debt elimination. Teasly is also looking to expand internationally.
