A recent gathering of the Philadelphia Main Line 20’s and 30’s Suburban Social Group, organized through MeetUp.

A “suburban social group” on MeetUp has become a must-have for Main Line residents looking to widen their circle of friends. Abigale Wolfe reported its success for Main Line Tonight.

The full name is the Philadelphia Main Line 20’s and 30’s Suburban Social Group.

Its MeetUp presence is thanks to Michael Wehar, a Swarthmore College visiting professor.

He sought a means to revive an active social life that had been severely curtailed by COVID-19 and worsened by bad luck fishing for get-together openings on friends’ calendars.

He began scheduling group activities on MeetUp for those in his inner circle.

But from there, Wehar’s extension of the resource to others seemed logical — even though the thoughts of contacting and meeting strangers was initially intimidating.

He got over it. And less than two years later, the MeetUp group has nearly 2,000 members.

Excursions have included things like Quizzo in Ardmore and walks at Valley Forge.

More on the Philadelphia Main Line 20’s and 30’s Suburban Social Group is at Main Line Tonight.
