Home Renovation of Lansdale Leukemia Patient’s Home Seeks to Ease Life for a ‘Superman’

Lowe's of Montgomeryville donated building supplies to aid in the renovation of the Lansdale home of Steve Wagner.

“We always say he’s like Superman,” said Dawn King of her brother, Steve Wagner. “He’s got a super heart.” Her familial sentiment is one of the drivers in a local renovation project that started with little skill but an abundance of love.

Currently fighting leukemia, Wagner’s Lansdale home has become inaccessible. Rachel Ravina, in Mainline Media News, reported the ground-roots effort to renovate it.

Family members are tackling the renovations themselves, armed with familial drive and some YouTube skill training.

When Wagner’s neighbors saw the dumpsters outside the property, they intuited what was going on and joined the project.

“We just felt we needed to help the family. We’ve lived next to them probably for 25 years,” one neighbor said.

Word of the self-guided renovations eventually reached managers at the Montgomeryville Lowe’s, and a large supply donation followed.

A GoFundMe campaign is also gathering financial resources to keep the momentum going.

Wagner hasn’t seen his revised dwelling yet.

But all the participants eagerly await that reveal.

“He’s a very quiet guy,” said Wagner’s East Norriton grandson. “He kind of doesn’t ask for help or anything like that. I think it is going to be a little surprising for him. A good surprise.”
