The recent effort from Norristown Area High School students to raise funds to fight childhood cancer yielded a $11,000 donation. Lanaye Jordan — reporter for The Wingspan, the school district’s online news source — covered the event that generated the funds.

The drivers of the high school’s fundraising Mini-THON were students from its National Honor Society (NHS). They partnered with Four Diamonds, a nonprofit that supports Penn State Children’s Hospital in Hershey and the childhood cancer patients it treats.

The Mini-THON included:

  • Raffles
  • Volleyball and dodgeball tournaments
  • Plenty of food
  • Music from the school’s drumline
  • Performances from Norristown’s Sabor Latino Dance Crew and the school’s color guard

“The process of preparing for Mini-THON requires lots of hard work, time, and effort we were very proud of,” said senior Esined Martinez-Torres, NHS president.

English teacher Kristin Colloton, the NHS faculty co-advisor, said, “This year’s event was truly awesome.

“We had amazing donations which, means more of what is raised goes toward global efforts in cancer research and the families of the Penn State Children’s Hospital in Hershey.”
