Bryn Mawr Bride Weds Where Ray Charles, Judy Garland, the Bolshoi Ballet, and Blondie Once Stood
Aubrey Mozino and Sam Mestman both work in the film industry, which explains a lot about how they ended up uniting in one of Philadelphia’s storied performance venues: The Mann Center for the Performing Arts. Kristen Schott profiled it for Philadelphia Magazine.
The two met in New York City, where one of West Orange, New Jersey’s Mestman’s scripts had an open reading by the theater group in which Bryn Mawr’s Mozino was performing.
A Los Angeles move for him was a wrinkle, but only a temporary one; she relocated there a few years later.
They started collaborating professionally. But eventually, a proposal followed, one requiring Mozino to find her ring scavenger-hunt style.
They opted for a rock-music themed wedding, and the Mann Center, known to both from their residencies, emerged as appropriate, and unique.
Guests picked up table assignments at at a “will call” station, à la tickets to a performance. Amplifiers, speakers, and musical gear decorated the cake.
There was no officiant; Mozino and Mestman chose instead to have their 150 guests formally unite them.
“‘We now pronounce you husband and wife,” they declared in unison.
Dancing to rock music and a surprise magic trick involving Mestman followed.
