Nottingham Resident Awarded $10,000 Scholarship by Harcum College Admissions Team: (l to r) Keylen Arizmendi Cordova, scholarship recipient; Krystal Popiel, Assistant Director of Admissions; Tyler Gangi, Assistant Director of Admissions.

A Nottingham, Chester County resident, Keylen Arizmendi Cordova, attended the Open House/Accepted Student Day at Harcum College and walked away with a $10,000 scholarship toward her dental studies.

During a random drawing in front of assembled prospective students, guests, faculty, staff, and college administrators at the “Bear-Nanza”–themed event on Apr. 15, Cordova’s name was selected from a pool of 95 accepted and deposited students.

She stepped up to accept an oversized check from admissions officers.

The graduate of Avon Grove High School plans to study Dental Assisting with an expanded functions dental assistant (EFDA)/Dental Hygiene track program at Harcum.

“Complete Surprise”

Cordova expressed her gratitude for winning the scholarship, saying, “It was a complete surprise, and I’m incredibly grateful.”

The scholarship will help her cover the costs of tuition and housing.

She also added, “I’m so happy that I attended the open house, because it was informative, and all of my questions were answered.”

More Lucky Attendees

In addition, the college raffled off five $1,000 scholarship winners. The benefactors of this additional luck were:

  • John Duncan, Radiologic Technology prospect from Blue Bell
  • Renee Henningham, Medical Laboratory Technology prospect from Philadelphia
  • Kristten Marte Cruz, General Studies prospect from Reading
  • Julia Mullaney, Dental Assisting with EFDA/Dental Hygiene Track prospect from Townsend, Delaware.
  • Desiarrea Grier Williams, Allied Health Science/Nursing Track prospect from Philadelphia

The Bear-nanza Open House and Accepted Student event was organized and hosted by the Admissions team and featured other Enrollment Management departments, including Financial Aid and Registration and Records.

Event Impact

More than 156 prospects and 252 guests attended.

All guests had the chance to speak with program faculty, hear from current students (some of whom live on campus), and enjoy an informative program offered by the Financial Aid department.

“I’m thrilled with the success of the event and the positive feedback we received from our surveys,” says Rachel Bowen, Vice President of Enrollment Management.

“Students enjoyed their visit to our campus, interacting with current students, and meeting with their program directors to learn more about their future majors.

“It’s exciting to see over 70 students reserving their seats for Fall 2023, which is a testament to the impact of the event. We can’t wait to welcome all of them to our campus this fall.”
