The United States Postal Service (USPS), in a search for employees, is holding a series of job fairs across the region, including Montgomery County. The news was carried in a CBS Philadelphia staff report.

Although opportunities exist in various roles, mailmen and -women are most likely included.

A 2022 Reader’s Digest article looked at some of the lesser-known aspects of a job delivering mail.

For example, commutes can be challenging. Postal deliverers often comment about their necessary re-acclimation when leaving personal vehicles for mail trucks at the beginning of a workday and vice versa at the end. The driver’s seat swap from left to right and back again can be a tough adjustment, especially when parking.

A job perk, however, is handling mail from youngsters.

One carrier recalled picking up an envelope written in a child’s scrawl. It read only “Grandma [LastName]’ and the city and state but that was it,” the postal worker said. She took it back to her office, where colleagues identified the recipient, paid the postage, and completed the address.

The Montgomery County opportunities to join the USPS are:

Hours are 10 AM to 2 PM. Applications must be submitted online at the United States Postal Service website.

The full job-fair list is at CBS Philadelphia.
