This Montgomery County main street passes through a community whose crime data show it to be the safest in the state.

PropertyClub, a New York City residential real estate rental firm, has examined Pennsylvania crime statistics to determine the state’s safest communities. Topping the 2023 list for a notably low rate of crime in the commonwealth is Collegeville.

According to PropertyClub, incidents of law breaking in the burg just off Route 422 between Trooper and Trappe are notably low. Its population of 5,043 and crime rate of 371 incidents per 100,000 people, yields a crime rate that is lower than the national average by 84 percent.

The PropertyClub staff reported, “Residents have a 1 in 270 chance of becoming the victim of a crime.”

Other local communities noted for resident security included Swarthmore, Delaware County (No. 3) and Northampton, Lehigh Valley (No. 10).

These two entries are the only eastern locations in the state. As might be expected, some of the state’s safest places are further west.

Six low-crime sites, for example, are near Pittsburgh.

  • Murrysville (No. 2)
  • West Mifflin (No. 4)
  • Franklin Park (No. 5)
  • Penn Township (No. 6)
  • Upper St. Clair (No. 7)
  • Lower Burrell (No. 9)

In the Pennsylvania midsection is State College (No. 8).

The full list of safe places to live in the Keystone State, behind top-ranked Collegeville, is at PropertyClub.
