Celebrations on LinkedIn

Currently, when you click on My Network on the menu bar of your Linkedin profile, you may or may not see Celebrations Beta, as it is being rolled out. LinkedIn will let you know who you can congratulate on a job change, work anniversary, or wish a happy birthday.

You can also access celebrations on a desktop or laptop on the celebrations page. It is not yet available on mobile.

You can either view the member’s celebration post and publicly comment on it for all to see or send the LinkedIn member a private message.

When you want to bring a post to someone’s attention, it’s best to tag them.

Kudos on LinkedIn

You can also send kudos thrice a week on LinkedIn, and here is how:

• Visit a profile
• Click the “more” button
• elect the kudos award from the drop-down menu.

You can make a public post or send a private message.

You will see the two choices when you click the arrow on the Share in a post button. Don’t forget to add a hashtag to the kudos post, before you click post. A hashtag is not needed when you send a private message.

You can give kudos for:

• Thank you
• Going above and beyond
• Inspirational leader
• Team player
• Great job
• Making work fun
• Amazing mentor
• Outside the box thinker
• Great presentation
• Making an impact

Celebrations off LinkedIn

This past week had its own celebrations. Tuesday was Valentine’s Day, and many people heard “I love you,” “Happy Valentines Day,” and the like.

Me? I got, “You got boogies.” That was said as I laid down with my two-year-old grandson to read a book before his nap. Nothing like honesty!

Congratulations to Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs for winning the Super Bowl.

A big thank you to the Eagles for winning to get us to the Super Bowl, even though it was not the desired ending for those with green blood.

Something fundamental to remember, however, is when you congratulate the winning coach on national television, you don’t say:

1. Big guy
2. Waddle over
3. Getting up in years
4. Have a cheeseburger on us

Celebratory comments like that scream weight discrimination, bullying, and age discrimination and harassment. If you don’t know how to filter and exercise self-control of your mouth, perhaps that job is no longer the right fit.
