The 2022 PFFF photo contest, with its nature themes, had photographers ready for just about anything, including split-second decisions to capture images like this.

A Facebook post from the Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation (PFFF) announced that the work of two Montgomery County photographers won artistic recognition in a 2022 statewide snapshot competition.

The competition was fierce; according to the PFFF source, nearly 600 pictures were submitted for judging. They all related to the theme “Clean Water and Forested Ecosystems.”

Sabrina Hilpert, of Hatfield, won a People’s Choice award in the Forests category for her entry showing a red-covered bridge being dusted by an impromptu snowfall.

Hilpert took the picture at Beltzville State Park, in Lehighton, north of Allentown.

“The contrast between the old covered bridge and the fresh dusting made for the perfect wintry photo shoot,” she said.

The other local winner was Hatboro resident Dolores Sadusky.

The setting for her prized shot from the Reflections group was Locust Lake State Park, Barnesville, southwest of Wilkes Barre.

“I was the first one awake in my family,” she said, describing the conditions that led to the image she captured. “And my words wouldn’t have been able to describe how beautiful the sunrise was. I needed the picture so they could see the beauty for themselves.”

The 2023 edition of the PFFF photo contest is already open; entries for its “Reflections” theme (an expansion of last year’s category) can be submitted through the PFFF Facebook page.
