Sweet Ashley’s Chocolates in Royersford has a gift item ideal for the chocoholics on any Valentine’s Day gift-buying list: the Hot Chocolate Bomb.

This flavorful burst of richness was a TikTok sensation last year, as posters captured its transformation from solid chocolate ball to cup of rich and decadent cocoa.

The store is run by married owners Connie and Rob Lawson.

Connie fell in love with chocolate as a child when, in a Willy Wonka–esque happenstance, she visited a candy factory and decided it was the future for her.

As an adult, she walked away from a pharmaceutical career, and she and Rob took on the role of chocolatiers.

For those who may not know, a Hot Chocolate Bomb is crafted as two halves of chocolate spheres that are united to form a hollow ball. Filling that cavity is cocoa mix with any number of flavorful add-ons (marshmallow and peppermint are common).

When placed in a mug and doused with hot milk, the ball melts, creating an upscale cocoa not worth wasting on kids that have just arrived inside from playing in the snow.

The versions at Sweet Ashley’s are imported from Klett Schokolade of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It’s been a family-run business since 1953.

A three-pack Hot Chocolate Bomb box can be purchased in the Sweet Ashley’s store or online.

The melting of a Hot Chocolate Bomb into a decadent drink is rather magical to watch, as this video illustrates.
