This crew is busy making dishes that include some of the best Buffalo wings in the state.

Although the exact birthplace of Buffalo wings is debatable — yes, they hail from their namesake N.Y. city, but specific credit beyond that is slippery — a few things are certain.

They are delicious.

And Pa. chefs have come to excel at them.

A list of the state’s best, from William Zimmerman IV at East Coast Traveler (published by NewsBreak), contains a solo Montco standout.

The best-of list contains only ten entries, culled from hundreds of contenders across the state’s nearly 50,000 square miles.

Pockets of excellence are scattered across the Commonwealth: Philadelphia, Scranton/Wilkes Barre, Pittsburgh.

And then there’s little Sayre, Pa.

From its location hugging the New York State border, it vends wings good enough to pull customers from either side of the state line.

Much closer to home is the Montgomery County champ: Wingers, at 19 E. Lancaster Ave., Villanova.

Food critic Zimmerman praised its Buffalo wings for being “…perfectly fried and evenly coated with homemade sauce. The wings at this wing joint are so juicy and crispy that they make for an ideal snack for sharing.”

In Philadelphia, the standout is Moriarty’s Irish Pub and Restaurant, 11th and Walnut Streets. Food journalist Zimmerman is particularly fond of its oversized pieces.
