Montgomery County Activities for Kids: Eight Ways to Keep Winter 2023 from Being a Total Dud
Winter 2023 thus far in Montgomery County has been something of flop for younger residents: No snow, which means no snow days, no snowmen, and no snow sledding.
Mother Nature hasn’t even sustained a stretch of temps appropriate for hot chocolate.
Nonetheless, here are eight activities for kids — compiled by Justine Garbarino of the Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board — that take place indoors, perfect for beating the winter blahs.
1. Fly High
iFLY King of Prussia enables kids as young as three to go skydiving indoors, in its state-of-the-art wind tunnels. It’s completely safe (there are extensive instructions before each launch), and all gear is supplied.
2. Snap into Creative Mode
The ultimate LEGO playground is LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Plymouth Meeting. Kids can enjoy a 4-D movie theater, an interactive ride, build and play stations, and the ultimate setting for I-spy: the massive, small-scale Philadelphia cityscape in bricks.
3. Jam the Pedal to the Metal
Speed Raceway, Horsham, allows kids to race in their very own electric go-kart around an indoor track.
4. Scale New Heights
Reach Indoor Climbing Gym, Bridgeport, has the tallest rock wall in the region (58 feet). Once back on terra firma, there’s a “Ninja Warrior room” with obstacle courses that build coordination while burning extra energy.
5. Glide Away an Afternoon
Given that Montgomery County waterways haven’t cooperated to glaze over solid, lace up the blades indoors. Oaks Center Ice — with its array of open skate times, plentiful rental equipment, and crew of instructors for lessons — remains the county’s premier skating destination.
6. Escape the Doldrums
Visiting an escape room is the perfect way to keep older kids and teens who love games and puzzles entertained. Escape Game in King of Prussia has a variety of themes and levels, and each game has multiple rooms to explore.
7. Level up the “Play” in Play Date
For a fun day indoors, kids will love Arnold’s Family Fun Center in Oaks. It has the area’s largest selection of arcade games, laser tag, go-karts, and bowling.
8. Nestle in at the Movies
Kids love the Movie Tavern at the Providence Town Center in Collegeville. They can watch a movie while ordering food and drinks right from their seats. On Tuesdays, tickets are just $5.
